Low-Density Fluid Based on Surfactant IP-MUL System
- The continuous phase is Water (fresh, salty or saturated with salt) 20%-60%.
- The dispersed phase is Oil (any type), which is 40%-80% internal pase.
- Most used O/W ratio: 70/30 Density 7.3-8.2 (ppg)/0.88-0.98 (Kg/Lt).
Surfactant –based fluid:
Continuous or external phase is water (fresh, brine or saturated salt
water)
Disperse or internal phase is oil (diesel oil, mineral oil and some
light crudes)
Preferred ratio: 70/30.
Initial density: 7,5 ppg.
Density with water phase salt saturated, 8,0- 9,2 ppg
01
The IP-MUL system does not need CaCO3 to seal the permeability of producing sand. Its low density allows it to drill in balance, and its filtrate does not cause formation damage.
02
The presence of surfactant IP-MUL in the external phase will help reaffirm the rock’s water wettability, improving the mobility of the crude.
03
System can be reused, minimizing fluid volumes to dispose of, compared to water base system.
04
Clean record, zero(0) drill pipes left stuck in the hole in more than 120 drilled wells.
05
Better productivity than neighbors or similar wells drilled with water-based “drill-in” systems
Improving Crude Oil Production in Mature Low-pressure Fields
- Low-density IP MUL surfactant-based system.
- Inhibited and filtered brines treated with surfactant.
Problem
- Drilling
- Completion and control
- Workover and services
Use of INAPPROPRIATE fluids
- Overbalance drilling fluids with many
solids - Unfilteredbrine, not compatiblewithnative
fluids,andthe producing formation
Need
- Properly design the fluid that will beincontact with
the producing reservoir. - To make it compatible with the native fluids and
the type of formation that improves the mobility of
crude oil - Resulting in enhanced oil and gas production
Solution
We will demonstrate how our low-density, surfactant-based IP MUL system successfully addressed these challenges in the field and increased production.
Scope
- Reservoir temperature or BHT < 300 °F
- Surfactant-based fluid (O/W) Low density 7.3 – 8.2 Lb/gal 0.87 – 0.98 gr/cc
- Surfactant-based fluid transition zone 7.4 – 9.6 Lb/gal 0.89 – 1.15 gr/cc
- Inhibited and surfactant-treated brine 8.4 – 9.8 Lb/gal 1.01 – 1.18 gr/cc
IP-Mul System Applications
- Original completions, workover, perforating, gravel pack, and drilling of oil and gas wells
- Low-pressure formations with a high tendency for differential sticking and loss of circulation.
- Formations of consolidated and unconsolidated sands, sandstones, dolomites, limestones, and shales
- In heavy, extra heavy, medium, and light crude oil fields
